Horizontal Machining Centers HMC have an advantage over Vertical Centers because rather than forcing chips out of vertical holes, gravity keeps the chips out of the workpiece. They fall naturally out of the way. Instead of endmills cutting and recutting chip swarf, which destroys the tool's cutting edge, chips fall out of the way, leaving clean cutting conditions for the tool. Resulting in less chip clogging and extended tool life. Some estimate that productivity is signivicantly more that vertical machining centers.
