WATERJET CUTTING TOOLS INFORMATION

ALL WATERJET CUTTING TOOLS EQUIPMENT

Waterjet cutting has been available since the 1980's. It was initially used for glass cutting applications. Applications have grown to include a wide variety of applications including hard metalic materials like aluminum and steel.

Waterjet cutting uses a high-velocity stream of water with suspended abrasives to cut through the workpiece material. The abrasives are added as the water flows through the machines nozzle before being shot at the material. When the stream of water makes contact with the material, the erosive force of the abrasives and water combine to cut through almost any material.

Waterjet cutting is very fast and can cut large pieces very quickly. But because of the physical nature of the stream of water at the entry and exit of the cutting edge, the walls of the cut material will not be perfectly straight and will appear 'sandblasted'. The effect will be more pronounced for thicker materials. This type of cutting is also noisy and the use of abrasives and suspended cut material require frequent cleaning.

Waterjet is particularly useful for non-metallic materials. Waterjet is also an excellent tool to rough out pieces from sheet. Its fast speed and general accuracy are good for low tolerance work with reasonable cost.
